Vision
SIGNIFICANT Purpose |
CLEAR Values |
To provide a meaningful musical experience for our students. To be competitive through healthy constructive outlets. To create life-long supporter of music.
A PICTURE OF THE FutureTo continue to move the program forward in creativity and sophistication. To be all-inclusive in regards to student participation. Our desire to be competitive depends on the integrity, knowledge, imagination skill, and teamwork of our students, parents, administrators, and band staff. We strive to create a safe and loving environment where every student is valued.
|
We are dedicated to the highest musical standards. We are committed to the highest moral character and ethical standards.
VISION BECOMES A RealityIt is important how the vision was created, how is is communicated, and how it is lived.

PROGRAM Goals
When setting goals for your program think macro to micro. Start with the bigger picture and then narrow down to more specific small goals that will take you to the finish line with your overall goal. Now, a goal without a plan is just a dream, so think about concrete goals backed up by extensive planning. This goes back to creating a vision for your group and goal setting is a step in the vision making process. How will you execute your plan? Who will be involved in the implementation of the plan and what are their specific roles. Consider everyone who will be affected; parents, students, staff, etc. Create a timeline for the year and even for the next 4 years. Use a calendar when planning, give yourself buffer deadlines for the smaller goals. Do your musical goals center around developing the individual musician, or are they competition centered?
Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world. ~Joel A. Barker
ALL THE TOOLS YOU NEED FOR Success |
STUDENT Perspective |
Everyone wants to be part of a successful organization. The definition of success is all about perspective. From an educator's perspective, it is a music education that results in student musicians who are able to make musical decisions and judgments on their own; self starters. An education that inspires excellence in all disciplines. One that develops the desire to be lifelong learners and where the program is healthy both in terms of individual musicians and the ensemble as a whole.
|
From a students perspective, success can be more extrinsic. Many students see trophies, awards, and accolades as a sign of success. Students want to be part of an organization of which they can be proud. They want some kind of return on their time investment. If we, as educators are doing our jobs right, our students will become more intrinsic in their perception of success.

A change in perspective changes everything.
